The origins of the Californian brand Audeze date back to 2008, when founders Sankar Thiagasamudram and Alexander Rosson met engineer Pete Uka. At that time Pete Uka was developing flexible circuits for NASA. The interest of such materials for the construction of audio headsets does not escape the founders. It was then that Dragoslav Colich in turn joined the team, with 30 years of background in the design of planar magnetic transducers. The LCD-1 helmet is born! It is followed by the legendary LCD-2 and LCD-3, as well as the LCD-X / LCD-XC models.
Magnetic planar technology
Magnetic planar technology uses very fine materials and powerful custom-made magnets. planar helmets make it possible to overcome certain limitations inherent to cone transducers, thanks to a thinner diaphragm, which is intended to be faster than on competing technologies. Magnetic planar HPs also have a coil that extends around the surface of the diaphragm. This coil interacts with the magnetic field to produce the electromagnetic force that moves the membrane. The magnetic planar transducers fitted to Audeze headphones are manufactured in-house, using a material originally created for the needs of NASA, and high-precision tools.
The future is now
More recently, the firm Audeze made this magnetic planar technology accessible to a wider audience, thanks to the EL-8 (open or closed) and SINE headphones. And we should soon see the arrival of high-end in-ear headphones, the iSine10 and iSine20 which exploit huge 30mm magnetic planar transducers!!! The first listens we were able to do are really excellent! They can be associated with the Apple Lightning CIPHER cable (already used on the Sine Lightning and EL-8 Lightning) integrating a 24-Bit DAC, a Headphone Amplifier, and a DSP. Compatible with all iOS devices equipped with this lightning connector, the CIPHER is perfect since the iPhone 7 does not have a headphone output!
